How Does it work?
Firstly, it's important for you to feel into who the right person to walk alongside you on your journey is. We can begin exploring this in our initial telephone conversation, or you may prefer to meet with me. It's up to you; Your journey in life is important and it's essential that you are able experience an open and trusting relationship to get the most out of it.
I invite you to interview me as if you were interviewing an employee. Really, that is what is happening isn't it; You are considering employing me to ... what is it? Is it to support you to explore how you may heal or grow through past or present issues? Maybe it's to explore new ways of being in life? Or is it something else? Maybe you don't quite know and this is what you wish to explore. In our initial face to face appointment I am able to assist you to refine and prioritise what you would like to explore in individual sessions.
You are then invited to reflect on what you would like by taking some time to fill in or simply reflect on the questions in this questionnaire (click here to download). Okay, so that gets you thinking a little more about what you really want from these sessions as well as what you're already doing to support yourself.
So, after you get a sense that you are connecting with someone you can build a trusting therapeutic relationship with and you have an idea of what you wish to explore and that we agree on what may be covered in the sessions you may choose to delve a little deeper, feeling for yourself what it is you need from each step of the way, aware of your level of comfort, aware that this is your practice, your journey of self-mastery and it's under your control.
Like a midwife I walk alongside you as you reflect, explore, experience and practice living your life, giving birth to yourself in every moment, more consciously. The important thing is that you are the one in labour, experiencing your own directly. Only you know the most about what is happening in your life and all that's happenned. In short, you are the best expert you will ever find on yourself. Assisting you to access you inner expert is what I see as part of my job
On the right track?
In this process we explore in your own time what you wish to. to learn what your inner expert needs to discover more of. To ensure we are on the right track I need to learn about you to assist you on your journey. Formally this is considered an holistic assessment - a wellness and bio-psycho-social-spiritual assessment. In this process I will ask you personal questions about you. It is important for you to know that you have a choice about how you answer or do not answer. If you choose to reveal bite-size portions of yourself I support you to make your choice based on what is best for you. Our assessment is ongoing, we (you and I) continuously learn more as the therapeutic relationship develops. Clearly, a reasonable amount of information about you will assist me to be more informed in my assessment. At the end of the day however, it is important that you are aware that you are the best expert on you and always will be.
The assessment process assists me to support you in a professional manner, to propose more appropriate interventions. It helps us to be on the same page.
How Long do Sessions go for? Individual sessions are generally 50-90 minutes. Sessions continue for as long as you wish them to. Some people feel issues are resolved enough after 1 or two sessions. On average, around 6 sessions is what people find supportive to find themselves moving more freely in life. If a person is looking to reflect in a more in-depth way longer term psychotherapy may be more appropriate.
